Mark Dickison is a trial attorney with a practice focused on complex civil litigation, including the varied disciplines of intellectual property, media law, alcoholic beverage regulation, products liability, employment law, environmental law and commercial law. He has tried several cases to verdict in state and federal courts in Massachusetts, securing multiple, successful jury verdicts, including one of the top three Massachusetts verdicts in 2012.
Experienced in prosecuting and defending the intellectual property rights of emerging businesses and multimillion dollar corporations, Mr. Dickison litigated the scope of protection that trademark law and copyright law provide architectural works in The Yankee Candle Company, Inc. v. New England Candle Company, Inc., 14 F. Supp.2d 154 (D. Mass. 1998) and secured a restraining order and an award of attorneys' fees against trademark infringers in Yankee Spirits, Inc. v. Yankee Spirits and William Gasbarro, 1998 WL 428092 (D. Mass 1998). Mr. Dickison regularly appears before the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission to protect the rights and interests of licensees as illustrated by a case in which he ultimately obtained the reinstatement of a alcoholic beverage supplier's certificate of compliance, BAAMassachusetts,Inc.v.AlcoholicBeveragesControlCom'n 49 Mass. App. Ct 839 (2000).
Along with Evan T. Lawson, Mr. Dickison represented Chebacco Liquor Mart, Inc. in its widely publicized constitutional challenge of Massachusetts' Sunday Closing Laws, a case ultimately adjudicated by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts in Chebacco Liquor Mart, Inc. v. Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, 429 Mass 721 (1999). More recently, Mr. Dickison was the lead attorney protecting the rights of a naturalist and neighbor petitioning to protect rare species from a development project as set forth in the publicized case of Brice Estates, Inc. v. Smith, 76 Mass.App.Ct. 394, (2010). Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a graduate of Syracuse University (B.A. 1992 Phi Beta Kappa) and Suffolk University Law School (J.D. 1995), Mr. Dickison is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, the United States District Courts for Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
